Duration: 6 hours
This delightful day trip starts at the home of the Royal Family for 900 years: Windsor Castle - the largest and oldest occupied Castle in the world. Its proud, strong walls dominate the delightful town that has grown around the castle over the years. Generations of Kings and Queens have conducted their business here and enjoyed its grounds, and you get a real sense of British history breathing through the walls of Windsor Castle.
You will see the lavishly decorated State Apartments containing priceless furniture in glorious colors and St George's Chapel, home to the 14th Century Order of the Royal Garter, our senior chivalric order.
Departing Windsor you will continue to the magnificent Hampton Court via Runnymede, where King John met his barons in 1215 and agreed to seal the Magna Carta that was to have a profound influence on rights and freedoms, not only in England, but across much of the civilized world. You will also see the memorial to John F Kennedy on an acre of land given to America by the people of Britain.
Next you will travel through the green and pleasant Berkshire and Surrey landscape to a Tudor marvel set in sixty acres of spectacular gardens: Hampton Court - a living tapestry of history through the ages. The formal gardens of Hampton Court reflect centuries of careful cultivation resulting in a symphony of regal splendor, symmetry and intricacy.
You will marvel at the 300 year old yew trees, and savor the fragrance of flowers wafting by as you enjoy the elegance and splendor of this historic royal palace. You can visit the South Gardens, historically the private gardens that provided the palace with its produce. These include the Privy Gardens - the manicured masterpieces of garden design completed in 1702 for William III, the Lower Orangery originally built to house Mary II's botanical specimens, and the more formal and grand East Front Gardens.
