Duration: 4.5 hours
Like to try an alternative entertainment to the theatre? Here's an entertaining and informative option for those wanting a bit more than the regular tourist attractions. Away from regular tourist sights, down London's own "back-roads" are ancient pubs, coaching inns and riverside taverns which have survived 500 years of fire, flood, wartime Blitz and modern developers!
On this fully guided, four hour pub tour, you will visit pubs where Dickens and Shakespeare drank, where pirates and smugglers met, where highwaymen found their victims, where revolutionaries plotted and where Royalty consorted. See Victorian "Gin Palaces", haunted pubs with prison cells beneath them, pubs where great literature was written and even a pub built from timbers of the Mayflower ship!
This is not a drinking tour/pub crawl (although you will have time to drink in the pubs visited), but a tour through London's amazing social history, using pubs as focal points en route. You will hear a host of fascinating stories, including the history of "drink" in Britain.
You'll also discover the origin and meaning of many words and phrases in daily use, like "bringing someone down a peg or two", or why we get "dead drunk". There's time to sample an ale or two and time to treat yourself to some fish n chips along the way. Stop at a fish 'n' chip shop around 9.30pm. (food and drink are not included in the tour price)
All in all, an unbeatable night out. The tour returns to central London hotels at approximately 11pm. Children under 15 are not encouraged to take this tour. You will be taken around London by a minivan (max. 16 persons). Some walking is involved between locations.
